Echidna Cams Pty Ltd is an Australian company that designs and builds modular, AI-powered camera ecosystems for rugged, real-world environments. From wildlife identification and biosecurity monitoring to asset protection and law enforcement, our technology brings long overdue clarity, reliability, and innovation to camera surveillance.

Our Story

We began with a simple goal: to build a camera system that performs where others cannot. Our journey started in Australia with a small team of engineers, researchers, and field experts who saw the limitations of traditional surveillance systems. We wanted something tougher, smarter, and more adaptable.

After months of design, testing, and iteration, we developed a modular platform capable of powering both overt and covert cameras, working with or without internet access, and running intelligent analytics on every captured event.

Jason Scarborough

CEO

Jason Scarborough is a regulatory and compliance specialist with over 25 years’ experience in the legal, ethical, and operational use of camera surveillance. Having worked across every generation of surveillance technology, from analogue systems to modern connected platforms, Jason saw a growing gap between what technology could deliver and what users needed. Conventional systems were limiting outcomes, not enabling them. After building a respected consultancy through the disruption of 2020, guided by a simple principle: adapt and overcome, Jason turned his focus to closing that gap. Today, he leads Echidna with a clear purpose: to reinvent camera surveillance through adaptable, intelligent systems that deliver meaningful insight in real-world environments.

Gabriel Wainmann

CTO

Gabriel brings over 20 years’ experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects across robotics, aerospace, medical technology, and automation. With a foundation in systems engineering, he loves applying technology to solve down-to-earth business problems and specialises in translating cutting-edge technology into practical, real-world solutions. Known for his curiosity-driven approach: ask questions, listen carefully, then act, Gabriel has led innovation for globally recognised organisations and emerging technology programs alike. At Echidna, he applies high-performance engineering thinking to everyday operational challenges, ensuring advanced technology delivers useful and tangible outcomes where it matters most.

Tal Avrahami

R&D Lead

Tal is a dynamic engineering leader and prototyper with a robust foundation in integration, testing, and manufacturing. Leveraging a deep specialisation in mechatronics and robotics systems, he bridges the gap between complex hardware architectures and intelligent control software. "Say yes first, figure out how later" is the philosophy he lives by. It’s a mindset that serves him well in the fast-paced world of startup engineering, where he uses his multidisciplinary background to engineer his way through complex challenges. At Echidna, Tal is the linchpin that turns concepts into reliable reality. He blends technical know-how with a "figure it out" attitude to ensure the seamless execution of products and the inevitable integration of new technology.
