SituAItional Awareness™ for the real world

Echidna Cams Pty Ltd is an Australian company that designs and builds a modular, AI-powered camera platform for rugged, real-world environments. From wildlife identification to law enforcement, and uses that haven't been imagined yet, our technology brings long overdue clarity, reliability, and innovation to surveillance.

Our story

Camera surveillance hadn't fundamentally changed in decades. The hardware got smaller, the resolution got higher, and the storage got cheaper — but the core assumption stayed the same: cameras are built for people to watch.

That assumption is the problem.

When you build a camera for human viewing, you make compromises — in resolution, compression, and how data is captured and stored. Those compromises don't matter much when a person is reviewing footage. They matter enormously when AI is trying to analyse it. The information AI depends on to do its job gets sacrificed before it's ever recorded.

Echidna Cams was founded to fix that. We started with a small team of engineers, field researchers, and surveillance specialists who understood both sides of the problem — the technology and the real-world operational requirements it needed to serve. We built from the ground up: hardware optimised for machine analysis, software that adapts to the mission, and an ecosystem designed to perform where no one can be watching.

We're Australian-built, field-tested, and already trusted by councils and government agencies across the country. This is just the beginning.

Who we are

Echidna Cams exists to close the gap between what surveillance technology promises and what it actually delivers in the field.

We build end-to-end camera ecosystems — hardware and software designed together, from the ground up, for AI analysis. Our systems deploy in remote locations, operate without continuous connectivity, adapt to changing missions without hardware replacement, and deliver the clarity and intelligence that modern government and conservation operations actually need.

We're not building for the showroom. We're building for the field.

Meet the team

Jason Scarborough

Jason Scarborough

CEO
Jason Scarborough is a regulatory and compliance specialist with over 25 years’ experience in the legal, ethical, and operational use of camera surveillance. Having worked across every generation of surveillance technology, from analogue systems to modern connected platforms, Jason saw a growing gap between what technology could deliver and what users needed. Conventional systems were limiting outcomes, not enabling them. After building a respected consultancy through the disruption of 2020 — guided by a simple principle: adapt and overcome — Jason turned his focus to closing that gap. Today, he leads Echidna with a clear purpose: to reinvent camera surveillance through adaptable, intelligent systems that deliver meaningful insight in real-world environments.
Gabriel Wainmann

Gabriel Wainmann

CTO
Gabriel brings over 20 years’ experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects across robotics, aerospace, medical technology, and automation. With a foundation in systems engineering, he loves applying technology to solve down-to-earth business problems and specialises in translating cutting-edge technology into practical, real-world solutions. Known for his curiosity-driven approach: ask questions, listen carefully, then act, Gabriel has led innovation for globally recognised organisations and emerging technology programs alike. At Echidna, Gabriel applies high-performance engineering thinking to a deceptively practical problem: building technology that works where it needs to, not just where it's convenient. His job is to make sure the system is as capable in a remote flood plain as it is in a lab.
Tal Avrahami

Tal Avrahami

R&D Lead
Tal is a dynamic engineering leader and prototyper with a robust foundation in integration, testing, and manufacturing. Leveraging a deep specialisation in mechatronics and robotics systems, he bridges the gap between complex hardware architectures and intelligent control software. "Say yes first, figure out how later" is the philosophy he lives by. It’s a mindset that serves him well in the fast-paced world of startup engineering, where he uses his multidisciplinary background to engineer his way through complex challenges. At Echidna, Tal is the person who turns concepts into hardware you can actually deploy in a paddock. If it works in the field, there's a good chance Tal built the prototype that proved it could.

Our Values

We have adopted six core values to serve as the foundation for our culture:

Trust

We earn trust through accuracy, transparency and rigorous protection of customer data. Our technology and our decisions are always grounded in evidence and secure by design.

Respect

We treat everyone we deal with, internally and externally, with dignity and worth. Everyone contributes to our success and deserves our respect.

Innovation

We embrace the learnings from our successes, and more importantly, our failures. We always use "how can we" thinking to be curious and bold.

Openness

We share thoughts and ideas without fear of ridicule or judgement and receive feedback openly. The best solutions often come from the most unexpected places.

Diversity

The different backgrounds, skills, insights, work styles, and personalities that our team members and customers have is what makes us exceptional. This is to be celebrated.

Happiness

The greatest pursuit in life is happiness. We believe that being challenged, fulfilled, respected, and appreciated while contributing to a team is an important part of achieving happiness.
